6) Evaluation- What have you learnt about technologies form the process of constructing this product?

During this course so far I have learnt to use many different types of technology: some of which I didn’t even know existed.

What Technology I have used:
-Mac
-Blogger
-Flickr
-Slidely
-Prezi
-Slideshare
-Adobe Elements 11
-Camera
-Memory card/ Memory card reader.

The Mac- before this process and experience I had only used a Mac a couple of times in order to use the Internet. I was therefore a novice in all of the application I would be asked to use in order to create my magazine. The Mac has a different layout compared to a normal PC that runs Microsoft technology: this was tricky to get my head around but I have enjoyed the experience and look forward to using the Mac in my Media course next year.

Adobe Elements 11- all three of my Magazine pages have been created using Adobe Elements 11. I had never used this software before so at the beginning of the process the amount of different things to do was a little overwhelming. However, after practise and making a few errors, I feel I got the hang of it and enjoyed using the many different tools.

The different tools on Adobe that I used the most were: Zoom, Move, Hand, Magic Hand, Brush, Eraser, Paint Bucket, Shape tools and crop. All these tools have different unique roles in helping me create my magazine; the tools became very easy to use after some practise on some early drafts. The more practise I had the more complicated things I could do. This gave me a wonderful sense of achievement.

The Adobe elements 11 experience overall was difficult to start but ended up becoming a fun and enjoyable way to create my magazine.

Blogger- this has been used to upload all of my work: from research to planning to then my final constructed pages. It illustrates my journey – on which I believe my skills have progressed and developed well, preparing my for the next challenge my Media course will through at me.

Blogger has helped me to keep all my work safe and easily accessible from anywhere with Internet; it also allows others to see my work and, due to teacher feedback and comments, helped me improve upon it. Blogger was totally new to me when we first started, but was never a struggle to access and work on as the layout and different things to do on it were relatively simple. Overall I have enjoyed working on Blogger and am proud of the journey it exemplifies.

Flickr, Slidely, Word cloud and Slideshare are applications that I used within my research for my media magazine. I feel I have not used these applications enough and feel my research and planning could have been improved had I done so. My reasoning for not using these applications is that when I have used them I haven’t felt confident in doing so and have therefore resorted to what I know. If I were to start this course again I would take the time to learn how to confidently use this technology.

The Camera- when the task of taking photos came up I enjoyed the experience and felt confident in doing so as I have used cameras before. I found it easy to take the photos however, what I did find challenging was finding the correct locations and lighting to suit my genre and TA.  I feel my cover photo was my most successful image, yet feel my main DPS image could have been stronger. This is the only image I would replace.

The memory card and memory card reader were simple and easy to use as they are something that I have done before, meaning I found it easy to transfer the photos taken by the camera and put them onto the Mac.

In conclusion I feel I have used a range of technology but could have pushed myself further and used an even wider variety including thinglink, powtoon and prezi. If I had to start the process again I would definitely challenge myself more. Enjoying the process of completing my magazine, Adobe Elements 11 has been my favourite mode of technology and I now confident using a variety of tools.

4) Evaluation- Who would be the audience for your media product? 5) Evaluation- How did you attract/ address your audience?

4)

My audience is a young audience, between the ages of around 13-18 years. This can be represented due to the amount of young people with in the magazine. The reason for the magazine targeting a younger audience is due to the lack of young styled classical magazines, and the stereotypes that 'classical' music has with the association with the older generation.

The audience would also be either gender. This is highlighted by the young male model I have used. I believe he the costume I put him in is stylish and therefore appears to both males and females. I have also used both male and female models within the images I have put in my magazine as I believe this to be equally appealing to my TA.

In my opinion Classical music has been branded a typically rich, white person's choice of music. However, I know, through TA research that this is not true. A small number of the people I gave my questionnaire to were of different race and I found classical musical is wide open to all opinions and viewpoints and meets everyones ideologies. I have also included discounts to encourage the TA of a lower class.

5)

I have attracted my audience through many different factors-

Firstly the photos I have used, they show young people this is too help show that the younger generation can like the stereotypical older generation music. The photos also help with the increase of audience due to the photos and who's on them. The photos also show who is with in the magazine this helps the audience recognise people and would make them buy the magazine due to this.

The magazine also has a very modern and mis-match  look due to the colours that are used and the many different fonts and shapes that are presented on the page, this helps appeal to the younger audience as it shows the different style that classical music can be represented to a younger audience. The people throughout the magazine are also used for a certain reason, it is to create a male and female gaze for the audience.

I also tried to use different fonts to appeal to my audience.

I used a very large font for my masthead to attract attention.

I also used social media links to appeal to my TA.

3) Evaluation- What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The media institution that might/would distribute a magazine like CMM would be, Rhinegold. This would because the distributor is known and respected within the Classical music industry. Another reason would be it is used for the classical music industry and would be represented and created within the correct area of the music, that would help raise the level of the audience as the name of a world famous distributor would help to catapult the magazine into the classical music industry.

2) Evaluation- How does your Media product represent particular social groups?

Front Cover-
The clothing that is used on the front cover is smart as the cloths worn by the model is a blazer, this would be more targeted to the more sophisticated social group; that would be a higher class and more willing to spend more on a magazine. The social media (Facebook, Twitter) that is being advertised helps the magazine to target a younger audience that would help to expand the success of the magazine as more and more people can share and view. The confidence that the model shows helps to expand the magazines audience to the female audience and creates Female attraction to the magazine, this was done by the facial expression that the model was doing and the editing done to emphasise the  model. This helps to show that the attraction that the front cover has due to the model, helps the magazine grow and the audience also. The Model uses Dyer "A star is an image", as the model is represented as a self-centred and confident, which will help to attract view points on the model and help to increase the popularity of the magazine.

Contents- The Male and Female models used on this page help to create the male and female attraction, again helping the magazine attract all sexes. The use of the female and the pose she is doing creates a provocative look to the magazine, this gives the magazine a more mature feel and widens the magazine. The models that are used on the contents page are young, this gives the magazine again a youthful feel, as the photos help to represent that young people respect this magazine and the contents of it.  The language used on the contents page also helps the magazine be aimed at a more youthful audience as it uses informal words 'buzzing', 'damn'.

Dps- The Dark, Smart and Dangerous look that the model creates, helps to interact with all types of ages and sexes, the model is young, which helps represent the young audience. The images used are of a male which creates the female gaze to the model, the model also looks mysterious leading to the audience wanting to read the article not just look at the photos. Perkins "stereotypes are not simple" is used here as the model isn't the typical young male, as the clothing and expression isn't usual, as the males are seen to be 'serious' and 'macho', not passionate or full of mystery.

1) Evaluation- In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

DPS

The page title and small description of what the page is about, consists of different fonts, font sizes and colour. This helps to highlight specific parts of the writing as the more important is more visible and easier to read. Some of the writing is in a different size and colour because it doesn't over power certain parts of the page.

The writing is a completely different font to the ones used for title and sub titles, this was done so the writing looks neat and easy to read, the use of the large first letter also makes the piece of writing stand out. The contents of the writing is also in a very formal and informative form, this is so that it makes it easy for all class and ages read the piece.

The pull quotes that are used in the DPS are used for highlighting what happens in certain areas of the large piece of writing, this helps the reader also to understand what the paragraph or area of  writing is about. The pull quotes are all within a formal looking boarder that helps to show the pull quote in a neat and easy to read manner.

Front Cover

I followed conventions with my banners ass they all follow the same or very similar colour schemes, feel also that the colour scheme fits with the younger age group, but also the mellow classical music feel. The colour also shows different emotions that are involved in the type of music classical is such as Love and Passion; by using the Red/ Maroon colour it has aloud me to adhere to my Target Audience.

My font for my masthead helps to represent a younger generation, as it is very bold and simple; the colour is also simple but effective due to the contrast to the background. This font came from multiple different trails of various fonts but this the second it was edited on to the front cover it stuck due to its boldness and the way it cleanly fits within the page.

Another banner within the page had logos such as Twitter,Facebook and iTunes, this breaks conventions slightly as they aren't usually found with a banner at the bottom of a front cover, this is effective though as it is clearly visible due to the logos contrast to the banner, it also looks simple and easily recognisable due to its location upon the page.

The puff isn't conventional as it underlaps the Masthead, but its is only done as it reads the Magazines  full name not its abbreviation 'CMM', the banners shape though is used as it is a scroll which can relate to the classical music industry as it is elegant but bold. The Font colour is white as it is clearly visible upon the puff, but also as it pairs with the Mastheads colour.

Contents Page

This Puff is conventional within the sense as it is used to Title  certain section of the Contents page, but isn't as the colour of the font isn't clearly visible in the puff, but its is done as the colour used is the 'Main' colour of the magazine that is found upon every page. The Style of the Puff isn't usually seen on a Classical magazine as it isn't simple of elegant, and its look more scruffy but this helps to increase the younger audience that isn't a fan of the older classical style.

The language and style that is used is conventional to the music magazine industry, as it is clear and is used to invite you into the magazine with various things such as competitions or free items. The font is simple and which appeals to all audiences, but could be improved for the younger audience by using more colour and a more stylish font style.

This Puff and what is found in it is very conventional to music magazines, as it is used to create a larger audience and draw people in due to the various deals. The Font style and colour is very simple but thats whats needed as it is used to only gain some attention from the audience, and increase the knowledge of the magazine.
